Dear Councillor [Name – see council directory],
I am / We are writing to express support for Mississauga’s Green Development Standards [insert personal reason]. Green standards will ensure healthier, higher quality, low-carbon homes with more affordable energy bills.
The buildings sector was responsible for 43% of emissions in Peel region in 2022. As we continue to grow, it is crucial to get emissions from new construction under control to meet our 2050 climate target. The proposed green standards follow recommendations from Mississauga’s 2019 Climate Change Action Plan and will support the city in achieving its goal of becoming a net-zero carbon community by 2050.
Adopting strong, mandatory green development standards for new buildings is the most powerful climate action we can take to curb increasing emissions.
Mandatory green development standards will contribute to Mississauga’s economic prosperity, environmental health, and social well-being. New buildings approved today will be part of our town for the next century. Building healthy, resilient, efficient buildings now is far more cost effective than retrofitting them down the road.
Thank you for supporting affordable and healthy buildings.
Sincerely,
