TORONTO – The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) today announced an investment of $4.5 million in Jule, a Toronto-based company specializing in energy management and electric vehicle (EV) charging. TAF’s financing will support the building and deployment of 66 bundled battery-powered fast-charging stations across Ontario.
Jule’s offering addresses two challenges to help scale EV adoption: providing access to fast and convenient charging for the public and reducing demand on the electricity grid. The solution especially benefits high-mileage drivers, and is already deployed across multiple sectors including retail, gas stations, and hospitality. The energy management and battery storage systems reduce peak-hour demand, which is traditionally met by carbon-intensive fuels. This demand-side management approach means a more reliable and affordable electricity grid, especially in grid-constrained areas.
Transportation contributes 37% of overall carbon emissions in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), and accelerating the pace of EV adoption is a key pathway to decarbonizing the sector. TAF analysis shows that its two-year working capital investment in Jule will reduce an estimated 40,000 tonnes of carbon per year.
“This investment enables an integrated approach to EV charging, expanding infrastructure to accelerate EV adoption and support a cleaner, more reliable grid,” said Kristian Knibutat, VP of Impact Investing at The Atmospheric Fund. “The chargers deployed in suburban and rural areas will help address range anxiety, bridging infrastructure gaps in underserved communities.”
Jule’s business is growing, and the company is currently seeking additional funding to scale.
“By combining high-speed charging with energy storage, Jule’s technology helps overcome two of the biggest barriers to EV adoption: grid limitations and charger availability,” said Himanshu Sudan, CEO of Jule. “We’re proud to partner with The Atmospheric Fund, and grateful for the support of EV ChargeON and ZEVIP in bringing this essential infrastructure to Ontario.”
Jule’s latest installation at Longo’s Milton reflects the grocery retailer’s dedication to environmental responsibility and guest experience. “At Longo’s we are committed to minimizing our overall impact on the environment and do everything we can to ensure we fuel happier and healthier lives,” said Deb Craven, President, Longo’s. “Our partnership with Jule reinforces our commitment to Environmental Stewardship, one of our three Sustainability Pillars. The battery-powered EV chargers provide a significant opportunity for ourselves and our Guests to support renewable electrification.”
TAF’s financing leverages previous funding from two U.S grants under National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and The Joint Utilities of New York programs, an Ontario Ministry of Transportation purchase contract, and Ontario’s EV ChargeON Program.
