Toronto, ON — The Atmospheric Fund applauds the City of Toronto for today setting an ambitious net-zero by 2040 target that meets the urgency of the moment. Meeting the City’s new climate targets will require a massive acceleration in climate action that engages government, businesses, utilities, citizens and the community at an unprecedented scale. And we need to start now, because there are only 97 months left to cut emissions by over 40% from current levels. Ultimately, strategies, targets and staff reports don’t reduce emissions – implementation is key. We look forward to continued collaboration with the City to accelerate implementation.
The report will be considered by the City’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee on December 2 and if approved, by Toronto City Council on December 15.

About The Atmospheric Fund
The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) is a regional climate agency that invests in low-carbon solutions for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and helps scale them up for broad implementation. We are experienced leaders and collaborate with stakeholders in the private, public and non-profit sectors who have ideas and opportunities for reducing carbon emissions. Supported by endowment funds, we advance the most promising concepts by investing, providing grants, influencing policies and running programs. We’re particularly interested in ideas that offer benefits in addition to carbon reduction such as improving people’s health, creating local jobs, boosting urban resiliency, and contributing to a fair society.
