February 2019. City of Toronto. TAF compiled a summary overview of the City of Toronto’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory using 2016 data. GHG inventories measure the emissions in a given region using data from energy consumption in buildings, vehicles, waste, and industry. Governments and the public can use inventories to better understand emission sources and trends and track progress towards meeting a reduction goal. Reporting this progress is an important climate action for cities, and a key component of the TransformTO plan.
Even as Toronto’s population soars, the city is making significant progress on our emissions reductions. See our summary report for a breakdown of what the emissions data means for Toronto and how we’re progressing towards our TransformTO goals.
