Toronto, ON — The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) today launched Home Solar Accelerator, offering homeowners throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) free, personalized support to install rooftop solar systems, paired with optional battery storage.
Expert advisors will help guide homeowners through every step of the process — assessing solar potential, gathering quotes from pre-qualified installers, navigating permit and interconnection approvals, coordinating installation, and following up to make sure everything is working.
“Many people love the idea of solar power as a way to take climate action, but it’s complicated,” said Chris Caners, Director of Clean Electrification at TAF. “We’ll help you understand your options, access available incentives, and make it easier to power your home with clean energy.”
Home Solar Accelerator is a non-profit concierge-style service aiming to help at least 1,000 residents install high-quality solar PV systems, adding over 8 megawatts of zero-carbon electricity across the GTHA. That’s 50,000 tonnes of carbon reduction potential over the lifetime of the PV systems.
Solar power offers Ontario cities a timely opportunity to tap the thousands of under‑used rooftops that could generate clean electricity right where it’s needed most, easing pressure on the grid and strengthening local resilience. TAF created the Accelerator service to address rising demand and electricity‑related emissions, and to support municipalities, utilities, and community partners in scaling affordable clean energy solutions.
The Home Solar Accelerator gives homeowners across urban, suburban, and rural communities access to trusted, unbiased information. It’s designed to meet people where they are — from early adopters to families exploring solar for the first time.
“Increasing local renewable power production is a key element of Oakville’s climate action plan and there are already many solar rooftops in our city,” said Oakville Mayor, Rob Burton. “TAF’s Home Solar Accelerator can help our community scale this up and generate financial value and carbon reduction along with electricity.”
“There are a growing range of ways to manage energy use, and our focus is on helping people understand what options are available for their homes and businesses,” said Diana Stephenson, EVP and Chief Customer Officer for Toronto Hydro. “Among these options is TAF’s Home Solar Accelerator, through which people can receive information and guidance on the solar solutions available in Ontario today.”
