The Toronto Green Standard (TGS) was created as a voluntary standard in 2006 and made mandatory in 2010 to improve energy efficiency standards for new construction projects – with TAF as a policy development partner. This background document provides the context for TAF’s 2013 recommendations to the City for the second version of the TGS. In December 2017, Toronto City Council will decide on the third iteration of this trailblazing energy efficiency guideline for new buildings.
