The story of TAF

With a $23 million endowment, the City of Toronto established Toronto Atmospheric Fund in 1991 using part of the proceeds from the sale of the then shuttered Langstaff Jail Farm in Richmond Hill. The late Jack Layton, a Toronto city councilor at the time, worked with his executive assistant Dan Leckie and Councilor Tony O’Donohue to realize the creation of the arm’s length agency – the first municipal climate agency in the world.
